The number of licensed ISPs in the country is 2650

Currently, there are 2,650 licensed internet providers in the country and to increase the range of broadband internet and ensure customer satisfaction, multiple ISPs have been given the opportunity to provide internet services in the same area, said the State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

While responding to a written question by Awami League Member of Parliament Naser Shahriar Zahedi at the session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Monday (June 24), the State Minister conveyed the number. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session. Monday's questions were presented in the answer table.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that currently the number of licensed internet providers in Bangladesh is 2,650. Various steps have been taken to ensure rapid expansion of internet services and quality internet services across the country.

The steps are- 1. These four types of ISP license are issued from BTRC Nationwide, Divisional, District and Thana/Upazila based. As a result, it is possible to reach the remote areas of the country with fast internet services. 2. In order to ensure quality internet service, instructions have been given to provide services as per the rules issued by BTRC on 11-11-2018 AD and ISP operators are providing services. 3. Multiple ISPs have been given the opportunity to provide internet services in the same area. As a result of which the competitive environment in providing internet services is created, the ISP operators are making efforts to increase the service quality and it is possible for the customers to choose the service from the ISP as per their choice. 4. According to the provisions of the ISP guidelines, all ISP operators are mandated to acquire bandwidth from IIG institutions.
